L’incertitude figure parmi les seules certitudes de la vie et nous ne pouvons pas échapper à l’intense instabilité de nos milieux contemporains. L’imprévisibilité du climat, les nuances sociales et culturelles, l’agencement de forces au-delà de l’humain et pratiques adaptatives informelles, dessinent une cartographie d’actions qui tracent les limites et les champs d’intervention des architectes et de la discipline.
Le Séminaire international Phyllis Lambert 2026 invite à accepter l'instabilité comme moyen de concevoir l'architecture. Il invite à remettre en question les certitudes génériques de l’architecture et en revanche, à explorer ses instables modes d’existence, sur toutes les pratiques expérimentales du quotidien à travers la narration, le bricolage et la recherche subjective. L’architecture devrait embrasser les fluctuations et surmonter les inconvénients allant au-delà de la société de services et de commodités, et explorer des alternatives pragmatiques intégrées aux communautés et écologies.

Uncertainty is among the only certainties in life, and we cannot avoid the piercing instability of our present milieux. Climate unpredictability, social and cultural nuances, the agency of more?than?human forces and informal adaptive practices, collectively shape a cartography of actions from which architects draw the limits and scope of the discipline.
The Phyllis Lambert International Seminar 2026 invites to accept instability as a means of conceiving architecture. It is an invitation to question the generic certainties of architecture and instead, to explore its instable modes of existence across all experimental practices of everyday life through narration, bricolage and subjective research. Architecture should embrace fluctuations and overcome inconveniences going beyond the service and commodity society, and explore pragmatic alternatives integrated into communities and ecologies.
